Juan de Ayolas Airport (AYO)

Juan de Ayolas Airport is a small national airport serving Ayolas, in the Misiones Department of southern Paraguay, on the banks of the Paraná River. It is particularly important for general aviation and logistical flights linked to the nearby Yacyretá hydroelectric dam, which is operated jointly by Paraguayan and Argentine authorities.

The airport has a single asphalt runway measuring 1,850 meters (6,070 ft) and a compact single-story terminal that combines passenger and administrative functions. It does not host regularly scheduled commercial airline services; traffic consists mainly of charter, private, corporate and government flights.

Located about two kilometers from the center of Ayolas, the airport is reached by local road. Ground transport is typically arranged in advance, and onward journeys to larger cities such as Encarnación or Asunción are made by road.

Facilities are limited to a basic waiting area and restrooms, so passengers are encouraged to plan ahead. Despite its modest infrastructure, the airport provides an important air link for this remote region, especially when seasonal flooding affects local roads.
