Aeródromo Don Carlos Miguel Gimenez (PIL)

Aeródromo Don Carlos Miguel Gimenez is a small regional airport serving Pilar, the capital of the Ñeembucú Department in southwestern Paraguay. It provides an important local air link for the city and surrounding region, supporting domestic flights and occasional international operations on request.

Renovated in 2005 and authorized for international flights on request in 2023, the airport operates from a single compact passenger terminal and has one concrete runway of approximately 1,500 metres. Its facilities are modest and focused on essential passenger processing, with a simple waiting area and basic check-in counters rather than large commercial amenities.

Located about 3 km from central Pilar and close to the Paraguay River, the airport is usually reached in around 5–10 minutes by local taxi or pre-arranged private transfer. This short connection makes it convenient for travelers continuing to the city centre, the river port and nearby areas.

As a gateway to the Ñeembucú wetlands and the Paraguay River, the airport also serves business travelers, sport fishermen and eco-tourists visiting the region.
