About Japura Airport
Japura Airport is the main domestic air gateway serving Rengat, the capital of Indragiri Hulu Regency in Riau Province, Sumatra. Built in 1952 by the oil company PT Stanvac, it is one of the oldest airports in Riau and was officially handed over to Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation in 1954.
The airport serves the wider Indragiri Hulu region and supports pioneer flights, cargo services and flight training. Its runway was extended from 1,300 metres to 1,400 metres in 2021, and its compact terminal covers around 720 square metres with basic departure and arrival facilities.
Located approximately 23 km west of Rengat city centre in Lirik District, the airport is reached mainly by road. Private transfers, taxis and rental cars provide onward connections to Rengat and surrounding districts.
Regional flights connect the area with destinations such as Batam and Pekanbaru, and the airport also hosts flight training activity. For travellers to central Sumatra, it functions as a small but important regional gateway.
