About Islay Airport
Islay Airport is the main air gateway to the Isle of Islay in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. Located at Glenegedale on the A846, it sits roughly midway between the island's main settlements of Bowmore and Port Ellen and is operated by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL).
The airport's modern passenger terminal opened in 2004 and serves scheduled flights to Glasgow with Loganair, alongside Hebridean Air Services links to Oban and Colonsay. It is also used by general aviation, charter and air ambulance traffic. The site has a longer aviation history, with commercial flights to Islay beginning in the 1930s and the airfield later used by the RAF during the Second World War.
Located about 8.5 kilometres from Bowmore, the airport is connected to the rest of Islay by the A846, local bus services, taxis and car hire, making it easy to reach Port Ellen, Port Askaig, Bowmore and the island's whisky distilleries and coastal areas.
