About Hudson Bay Airport
Hudson Bay Airport is a small public aerodrome serving the town of Hudson Bay and the wider east-central Saskatchewan region. It has no scheduled commercial airline service and is used mainly for private flying, recreational aviation and provincial aerial firefighting operations.
The airport opened together with its water bomber base in May 1978. Its main asphalt runway 06/24 is approximately 1,524 m (5,000 ft) long, and the site includes water bomber facilities such as an 8,000-gallon fire retardant tank, two 10,000-gallon water storage tanks and fuel storage.
A 2011 provincial investment of about $2.6 million funded repaving of the main runway and reconstruction of taxiways and aprons. The work also led to the closure of the airport's smaller 2,000-foot crosswind runway.
Located about 7 km (4 mi) southeast of the Hudson Bay town center, the airport is reached by road and offers a quiet, uncrowded arrival and departure point.
