About Hope Bay Aerodrome

Hope Bay Aerodrome is a private mining aerodrome in the western Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut, Canada. It serves the Hope Bay gold mine, its exploration camps, and related supply and personnel flights in this remote Arctic area.

The aerodrome lies roughly 125 km southwest of Cambridge Bay and about 685 km northeast of Yellowknife, with no public road connection to nearby communities. Access is primarily by charter and mine-rotation flights, and the site is operated by Agnico Eagle, which acquired the Hope Bay property in 2021.

It has a single gravel runway oriented 01/19, approximately 1,525 m long, supporting the turboprop and cargo aircraft used for fly-in, fly-out mine operations. Facilities are focused on airside operations rather than public passenger services.

Because the aerodrome primarily supports the mine, passenger amenities are limited and access is generally restricted to authorized personnel and contracted flights. For most travellers, onward movement is arranged through the mine operator or charter providers.
