About Guanacaste Airport
Guanacaste Airport is the main international airport serving Liberia and the northern Pacific region of Costa Rica. First opened to commercial flights in 1995, it became an important gateway to the beaches and resorts of Guanacaste and was rebranded as Guanacaste Airport in 2021.
Located about 13 km west of Liberia, the airport handles domestic and international services through a single passenger terminal. The current terminal opened in January 2012 and is arranged for a simple arrival and departure flow, with immigration and baggage claim on the ground level and departure gates above.
The airport offers the quickest air access to popular destinations such as Tamarindo, Papagayo, Playas del Coco, and the Nicoya Peninsula, and it also serves travelers heading to Rincón de la Vieja and other inland parts of the province.
Onward travel is available by shuttle, taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service, rental car, and scheduled buses, making it relatively easy to reach Liberia and the surrounding coast.
