About Goose Bay Airport
Goose Bay Airport is the main air gateway to Labrador, serving Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the surrounding region. The airport shares its site with 5 Wing Goose Bay, a Canadian Forces base, and combines a civilian passenger terminal with military and general aviation operations. Its airfield was developed in 1941 during the Second World War as a refueling stop for transatlantic flights, and the facility has since grown into a key regional hub.
Located within Happy Valley-Goose Bay, the airport is about 3 km from the town centre. The civilian terminal, opened in 2012, is owned and operated by the Goose Bay Airport Corporation and handles scheduled passenger services operated by airlines such as Air Borealis, PAL Airlines and Air Canada Express. These flights connect the town to the Labrador north coast and to destinations including St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake, Wabush, Churchill Falls and Blanc-Sablon.
Because the airport is an airport of entry staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency, it can also handle international and private flights. Two runways, a 24-hour control tower and 24/7 fixed-base operators support a mix of scheduled, charter and military traffic.
