About Glentanner Airport
Glentanner Airport (GTN) is a small public aerodrome at the northwest end of Lake Pukaki in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It serves as a gateway to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and the wider Mackenzie high country.
From 1987, Newmans Air operated Dash-7 flights into Glentanner from Christchurch and Queenstown, and the aerodrome was formerly used as a standby for Mount Cook Airlines when Mount Cook Airport was closed by poor weather. Today the airport mainly supports scenic flights and charter traffic, with Air Safaris operating sightseeing flights over the region.
The airport has a single asphalt runway, 15/33, measuring about 965 metres, and a compact on-site facility for passengers and aircraft operations. It is suited to smaller aircraft and visual flight rules operations rather than large commercial jets.
Located on State Highway 80, the aerodrome is roughly 24 kilometres south of Mount Cook Village and about 43 kilometres from Twizel, with road access to Lake Tekapo, Queenstown and Christchurch. The adjacent Glentanner Park Centre provides accommodation and dining, making the airport a practical base for exploring Aoraki/Mount Cook.
