About Gjoa Haven Airport
Gjoa Haven Airport is the main air gateway to Gjoa Haven, a small hamlet on the southeast coast of King William Island in Nunavut's Kitikmeot Region. Operated by the Government of Nunavut, it connects the community with regional centres such as Cambridge Bay and Yellowknife and with other communities across Nunavut.
The airport has a single-storey terminal building and one gravel runway, 13/31, measuring about 4,400 feet (1,341 metres). Because of its remote Arctic location, scheduled services are limited and weather conditions can change quickly.
Located about 3 km northeast of the hamlet centre, the airport is reached by local road. The short journey into Gjoa Haven is typically arranged in advance by local pickup, pre-booked transfer or community vehicle.
Despite its small size, the airport provides essential passenger and cargo connections for residents, medical travel, business and visitors exploring the Arctic landscapes and Northwest Passage history of the region.
