Girua Airport is the main airport serving Popondetta and the Oro (Northern) Province of Papua New Guinea. It functions as a domestic gateway, connecting the region with Port Moresby through scheduled services operated by Air Niugini and PNG Air, with onward links to other domestic destinations.
The airport stands on part of the wartime Dobodura Airfield Complex built in late 1942 and early 1943, and is the only airfield from that complex still in use today. A modern single-level integrated terminal was inaugurated in March 2018, providing check-in counters, a waiting area and basic passenger amenities for domestic flights.
Located approximately 15 km from central Popondetta, the airport is reached by local taxi, hotel shuttle or private transfer. Travelers heading to the Kokoda Track typically arrange pre-booked 4WD transport through their trekking operator.
