Gimli Industrial Park Airport (YGM)

Gimli Industrial Park Airport is a general aviation facility serving the town of Gimli and Manitoba's Interlake region. The site began as a Royal Canadian Air Force training base in 1943, later operated as Canadian Forces Base Gimli, and was converted to civilian use after the base closed in 1971. Located about 4 km west of Gimli and roughly 89 km north of Winnipeg, the airport provides a long-runway base for private, charter, flight training, and specialty aviation activity. It is co-located with the Gimli Business Park and close to Lake Winnipeg's resort communities. The Transport Canada certified airport features one of the longest rural concrete runways at 6,800 feet by 150 feet, along with two taxiways, a large apron, and modern LED runway lighting. It supports IFR operations through GPS instrument approaches and offers self-serve AVGAS 100LL and Jet A1 fuel. The airport is also known as the landing site of Air Canada Flight 143, the 'Gimli Glider,' in July 1983. Today it serves as a regional aviation gateway reached by PTH 8 and PR 231, with one former runway now part of Gimli Motorsports Park.
