About Gillam Airport
Gillam Airport (IATA: YGX, ICAO: CYGX) is a small regional airport located adjacent to the town of Gillam in northern Manitoba. It is the town's main air link to the rest of the province, with scheduled regional flights operated mainly by Calm Air to Winnipeg, Thompson and Churchill.
The airport sits close to the centre of Gillam and serves a remote community on the Nelson River that has no all-season road connection to southern Manitoba. For many travellers, flying is the most practical way to reach the town, while the Via Rail Winnipeg–Churchill line provides an alternative rail connection.
The airport has a single gravel runway, oriented 05/23 and measuring about 5,034 feet (1,524 m) in length, together with a small passenger terminal building. It is owned and operated by the Town of Gillam and mainly handles domestic regional traffic.
Onward travel from the airport is straightforward because of its location near the town centre. Taxis and pre-arranged transfers serve the terminal area, and food and accommodation are available nearby in Gillam, making the airport a practical gateway for residents, workers and visitors travelling in this part of northern Manitoba.
