General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport is the main airport serving Barcelona, the capital of Anzoátegui State in northeastern Venezuela. Opened in 1973, it replaced the city's former airport and has grown into an important gateway for eastern Venezuela, also functioning as a hub for Avior Airlines.
Located roughly 5 km southwest of central Barcelona and close to the Caribbean coast, the airport connects Anzoátegui with domestic destinations including Caracas, Porlamar and Coche, as well as international routes to Panama City and Santo Domingo. Its main runway measures about 3,000 metres, supporting domestic and international operations.
The terminal complex includes a commercial passenger terminal alongside general aviation and military aviation areas. Passengers can find cafeterias, restaurants, a waiting lounge, flight information screens, an art gallery, car rental desks and taxi services.
Managed by Bolivariana de Aeropuertos (BAER), the airport provides practical access to Barcelona, nearby coastal towns such as Lechería and Puerto La Cruz, and onward travel across the region by taxi, public transport, private transfer and rental car.
