About Gällivare Lapland Airport
Gällivare Lapland Airport is a small regional airport serving Gällivare and the surrounding municipalities of Swedish Lapland. Located about 7 km east of central Gällivare and roughly 10 km from Malmberget, it is the main air gateway for travellers heading to northern Sweden.
The airport began as a military airfield with three 800-metre strips built during the Second World War and opened to scheduled civil traffic in 1971. The runway was later extended in stages and now measures about 1,714 metres, while the current terminal building was completed in 1994. Today the airport operates a single passenger terminal and a single asphalt runway.
GEV mainly handles domestic scheduled passenger traffic, with connections via Kramfors to Stockholm Arlanda. The airport also serves mail, freight, helicopter and private aviation. Journeys from the airport to the town centre take around 10–15 minutes by car.
With a compact terminal, short walking distances and road access to the E10, the airport offers a straightforward arrival and departure experience for visitors continuing to Gällivare, Malmberget, the Laponia World Heritage Site and other destinations in Swedish Lapland.
