About Fort McMurray International Airport
Fort McMurray International Airport is the main airport serving Fort McMurray and the wider Wood Buffalo region of northeastern Alberta. It connects the community with domestic destinations such as Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, and supports international service as a designated port of entry.
Opened in 2014, the current main terminal replaced the older facility on the north side of the airport and was built to handle a higher volume of passengers with more gates and passenger bridges. The original terminal has since been repurposed for aviation-related businesses, while the main terminal handles the airport's scheduled airline operations.
Located roughly 13 kilometres from downtown Fort McMurray, the airport is reached by car, taxi, ride-hailing services, shuttle services and rental vehicles. Ground transportation links the terminal to the city centre, hotels and work sites throughout the region.
