Fort MacKay/Firebag Aerodrome is a private aerodrome in northern Alberta that supports fly-in, fly-out workforce operations for Suncor Energy's Firebag in-situ oil sands project. It is one of several industrial airstrips in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo used to move workers to and from remote energy sites.
The aerodrome sits near the hamlet of Fort MacKay and the Firebag River, roughly 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray. It has a single asphalt runway, and the facility was developed to serve the Firebag operation, becoming operational in 2007.
Access is restricted and prior permission is required for flight operations. Ground transportation within the site is organized through shuttle services connecting the terminal to work areas and accommodation camps, while road links connect the region to Fort McMurray.
The terminal is designed for efficient worker processing rather than commercial travel, with basic waiting areas, washrooms and security screening. Its remote location and industrial purpose make it a functional gateway for crews rather than a conventional public airport.
