Fatmawati Soekarno Airport is the main domestic airport serving Bengkulu, the capital of Bengkulu Province on the southwest coast of Sumatra. The airfield was built during the Japanese occupation in 1943–1944 and was renamed in 2001 from Padang Kemiling Airport to honor Fatmawati, Indonesia's first first lady, who came from Bengkulu. Located about 14 kilometers from central Bengkulu, the airport links the city with Jakarta, Batam and other domestic destinations. It has a single passenger terminal and a 2,250-meter asphalt runway, and serves both business and leisure travelers visiting the region. Passengers can reach central Bengkulu by taxi, local buses, private transfers or rental cars, using the main road connection to the city. Travel to the city center normally takes around 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Inside the terminal, travelers have access to waiting areas, prayer facilities, food and drink outlets, shops, ATMs, charging points and parking, making the airport a practical gateway for onward journeys across Bengkulu and the surrounding area.
