About Edmonton International Airport
Edmonton International Airport is the primary airport serving Edmonton, Alberta's capital, and a key gateway to Northern Alberta and Canada's North. Opened in 1960, it has grown into one of Canada's busiest airports and connects the region to destinations across Canada, the United States, and overseas.
The airport operates from a single integrated terminal with connected concourses handling domestic, US transborder, and international flights. A central hall brings together check-in, security, and baggage claim, while passengers flying to the United States clear US Customs and Border Protection preclearance before departure.
Located in Nisku, about 30 kilometres south of downtown Edmonton, the airport is reached by road via the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (Highway 2). Travellers can continue to the city by the Route 747 express bus with LRT connections, taxi, rideshare, hotel shuttle, or rental car.
Passenger facilities include shops, restaurants, lounges, free Wi-Fi, currency exchange, a multifaith prayer room, a sensory room, and accessible services, making it a practical gateway for both leisure and business travellers.
