Dr. Luis María Argaña International Airport (ESG)

Dr. Luis María Argaña International Airport serves the small city of Mariscal Estigarribia and the Boquerón Department in the Paraguayan Chaco. It is a joint civil and military facility operated in coordination with the Paraguayan Air Force, and it plays a strategic role for territorial control, emergency services and specialized flights in this remote western region.

The airport is best known for its concrete runway, which measures around 3,500 metres and is among the longest in Paraguay. Built between 1977 and 1986, the airfield was originally designed to support large cargo aircraft and remains an important piece of national aviation infrastructure, although regular commercial passenger traffic is limited.

Located about 2 kilometres from the centre of Mariscal Estigarribia, the airport is reached by road, with transfers into town usually arranged in advance. Customs and immigration facilities are available for international flights, but civilian passenger amenities are minimal, so travelers are advised to plan ahead.

As a gateway to the Gran Chaco, the airport supports access to one of Paraguay's most sparsely populated and distinctive regions. Its long runway and strategic position near the Bolivian border give it continued importance for military, cargo, charter and emergency operations.
