About Douw Aturure Airport
Douw Aturure Airport is the main airport serving Nabire, the capital of Central Papua, and the surrounding region. Opened in November 2023, it replaced the older airport in Nabire District and consolidated the area's scheduled air services into a modern regional facility.
Located in Wanggar District about 12 km from the Nabire city centre, the airport connects Nabire with destinations such as Makassar, Jayapura, Timika, Ambon and Manokwari, as well as pioneer routes to communities in the interior. A single passenger terminal handles domestic departures and arrivals, supported by a cargo terminal and a runway sized for ATR 72 aircraft.
The airport is named after Isaias Douw, a former regent of Nabire Regency, with the title Douw Aturure bestowed by coastal tribes in the area. Its facilities include check-in counters, a waiting lounge, baggage claim, retail and dining options, and onward transport links.
Ground transportation to Nabire and nearby areas includes DAMRI bus services, taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars. As the main gateway to Nabire, the airport provides access to Teluk Cenderawasih National Park and other destinations in Central Papua.
