Diori Hamani International Airport is the main international airport serving Niamey and the wider region of Niger. Established as an airfield during the French colonial era, it was named after Hamani Diori, the country's first president, and has developed into Niger's principal gateway for domestic and international air travel.
Located approximately 8–12 km southeast of central Niamey along Route Nationale 1, the airport serves a range of West African, North African, European and Middle Eastern connections. A major modernization programme completed in 2019 delivered a new passenger terminal, improved runway infrastructure and upgraded passenger facilities.
The airport operates through a single passenger terminal and shares its site with Base Aérienne 101, the main base of the Niger Air Force. Its two runways and modern terminal building support scheduled airline operations, arrivals, departures and ground handling services.
