Courchevel Altiport (CVF)

Courchevel Altiport is a high-altitude mountain airfield serving the Courchevel 1850 resort and the wider Three Valleys ski area in the French Alps. Created in 1961, it is considered the highest altiport in Europe at around 2,007 metres above sea level, and it is used mainly by private aircraft, light planes and helicopters.

The airfield has a single asphalt runway measuring 537 metres in length with a gradient of up to 18.5 per cent, making it one of the shortest and steepest runways in commercial use. It operates as a compact facility with a control tower, two welcome chalets, hangars and aircraft fuelling, rather than a large multi-terminal airport.

Located about two kilometres south of the Courchevel 1850 centre, the altiport puts arriving passengers directly in the ski resort. Free shuttles, hotel shuttles, taxis and pre-arranged transfers connect the runway to hotels, chalets and the resort centre in a few minutes.

Since 1971 the runway has been cleared of snow throughout the winter, allowing the altiport to remain accessible all season. With ski slopes only metres from the runway and a lounge-style passenger area, it serves as a practical arrival point for visitors to Courchevel and the Three Valleys.
