About Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport

Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport is the main air gateway for Clermont-Ferrand, the capital of the Auvergne region, and the wider Puy-de-Dôme area. It connects the city with Paris and a number of domestic and international destinations, serving business travellers, holidaymakers and visitors exploring the Chaîne des Puys volcanoes and the Massif Central.

The airport traces its origins to 1916, when the Michelin brothers built what is regarded as the world's first hard-surfaced runway at Aulnat to support wartime aviation. Scheduled commercial services followed in 1929, and the site has since developed into a compact regional airport operated by VINCI Airports.

Located in Aulnat, about 7 km east of Clermont-Ferrand city centre, the airport has a single passenger terminal of around 4,600 m² handling domestic and international flights, with a separate business terminal for private aviation. Two car parks are located close to the terminal building.

The airport is easy to reach by road, and the Gare d'Aulnat-Aéroport railway station is a short walk from the terminal, with TER trains reaching central Clermont-Ferrand in about 10 minutes. T2C bus line 20, taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and car rental provide further onward options, making the airport a convenient starting point for journeys across Auvergne.
