About CFB Greenwood
CFB Greenwood is an active Royal Canadian Air Force base and joint civil-military airfield in Kings County, Nova Scotia. Established in 1942 as a training station under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, it later became a Royal Canadian Air Force station and is now home to 14 Wing Greenwood, Canada's largest operational air force base on the Atlantic coast.
Located just east of Greenwood village in the Annapolis Valley, the airfield supports military operations and a limited civilian aviation presence. Civilian facilities are run by Freedom Aviation, which provides parking, fuel and runway access for private and visiting aircraft; the base has two asphalt runways.
The base sits close to Highway 1, with Kingston and Kentville within roughly 10–35 km and Halifax about 145 km to the east. Travelers continue by car, private transfer, taxi or rental vehicle, with road access connecting the airfield to the Annapolis Valley and the rest of Nova Scotia.
