About Cartwright Airport
Cartwright Airport is a small public airport serving Cartwright, a remote coastal community in southeastern Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Located about 3 km southwest of the town, it provides an essential year-round air link for a region with no road access to the rest of the province.
The airport is owned and operated by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and has a single gravel runway, designated 08/26, measuring about 1,200 m (3,937 ft). It primarily handles small regional aircraft operated by PAL Airlines, connecting Cartwright with Goose Bay and other communities along the Labrador coast.
Because the community can be reached mainly by air, seasonal coastal ferry, or winter snowmobile trails, the airport plays a vital role in passenger travel, medical transport and freight deliveries. Facilities are modest, with a small passenger terminal and basic services, while local taxis and community transport provide onward connections into Cartwright.
For travellers, the airport offers a simple and compact arrival and departure experience, with limited amenities that reflect its remote setting.
