About Cairo International Airport
Cairo International Airport is the main international airport serving Egypt's capital and one of the busiest aviation hubs in Africa and the Middle East. Located in the Heliopolis district northeast of the city centre, it acts as the primary gateway for visitors heading to Cairo, the Giza Pyramids and destinations across Egypt.
The airport opened in stages and today operates three main passenger terminals plus a seasonal flights terminal, with Terminal 3 opened in 2009 as the newest and largest facility. It handles domestic and international traffic and is the principal hub for EgyptAir and its Star Alliance partners.
CAI sits around 20 km from downtown Cairo, with connections by airport shuttle bus, public bus, taxi, ride-hailing services, private transfers and rental cars. Road journeys into the centre typically take about 30 minutes in light traffic but can be considerably longer at busy times.
