About Broadford Airstrip
Broadford Airstrip is a small general aviation airfield serving the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands. Built by the Royal Engineers and opened in 1972, it lies at Ashaig, about 5 km east of Broadford, and is owned by Highland Council.
The airfield has a single asphalt runway measuring approximately 771 metres and is used for private aircraft, emergency services and the Skye Flying Club. Scheduled flights operated until 1988, but no commercial passenger services run today, and the site remains unlicensed for commercial operations under CAA regulations.
Located off the A87 road, the airfield is about 5 km from Broadford and roughly 45 km from Portree, the main town on Skye. Access is by private vehicle, taxi, car rental or pre-arranged transfer, as there is no scheduled public transport directly at the airstrip.
Facilities are limited to welfare provision and a hangar, with no terminal building, shops or restaurants on site. The airfield has also served as a filming and event location, including the opening sequence of Flash Gordon and the former Isle of Skye Music Festival.
