About Banyuwangi International Airport
Banyuwangi International Airport is the main airport serving Banyuwangi city and the eastern tip of East Java. Located in Blimbingsari, it connects the region with domestic destinations such as Jakarta and Lombok and serves as a convenient gateway for travelers visiting East Java's eastern attractions.
The airport, formerly known as Blimbingsari Airport, was expanded with a new passenger terminal that opened in 2017 and is widely recognized as Indonesia's first green airport. Designed by architect Andra Matin, the open-air terminal draws on the traditional Osing house, using natural ventilation and daylight to reduce reliance on air conditioning. The runway was extended to around 2,500 metres, allowing narrow-body jets to operate.
The airport lies roughly 17 km south of central Banyuwangi, normally about 30 minutes by road. Travelers can continue to the city centre, hotels, the Ketapang ferry terminal for Bali, and destinations such as Ijen Crater and Baluran National Park by taxi, private transfer or rental car.
With its compact, naturally ventilated terminal and modern passenger facilities, the airport offers a relaxed and efficient travel experience for both business and leisure visitors arriving in the Banyuwangi region.
