About Ardmore Airport
Ardmore Airport is a general aviation airport serving Auckland and the wider Auckland region. Established in 1943 as a World War II operational base, it later became the primary general aviation airfield for the Auckland area when general aviation operations transferred to Ardmore after Auckland International Airport opened in 1965.
Located south of central Auckland, near Manurewa and Papakura, the airport supports private flights, charter aircraft, flight training schools and warbird aviation rather than scheduled commercial passenger services. Its aviation community includes several flying schools and the NZ Warbirds Visitor Centre.
The airport is reached by road from Auckland and surrounding suburbs, making it practical for private pilots, training flights and charter passengers to connect with the wider region. Onward travel to the city centre and nearby areas is typically by private transfer, taxi or rental car.
With a café, parking, viewing areas, fuel and hangar services, Ardmore functions as a busy hub for general aviation activity in New Zealand's largest city region.
