About Alexandra Aerodrome
Alexandra Aerodrome is a small public aerodrome serving Alexandra and the wider Central Otago region on New Zealand's South Island. It sits about 3.7 km (2 NM) northwest of Alexandra and is operated by the Central Otago District Council.
Today the aerodrome mainly supports general aviation, private and charter flights, and flight training through the Central Otago Flying Club. Scheduled commercial airline services are not a regular part of its current operations, although several regional airlines have served the town at different times.
Historically, Alexandra Aerodrome was used by South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand in the 1960s and later by Mount Cook Airlines, which connected Alexandra with Dunedin and Queenstown until the early 1990s. Other short-lived regional services followed, but demand was not enough to sustain regular scheduled flights.
Because the aerodrome is close to town, travel to Alexandra is straightforward by car, taxi or pre-arranged transfer. Road links continue to Clyde, Cromwell, Queenstown, Wanaka and other Central Otago destinations, making the aerodrome convenient for private flyers and general aviation visitors.
