Abaiang Airport (ABF)

Abaiang Airport is a small domestic airfield serving Abaiang Atoll in the Gilbert Islands of Kiribati. It provides an air link between the atoll and the capital, South Tarawa, as well as nearby islands such as Marakei.

The airport sits on Abaiang Island between the villages of Tabwiroa and Tuarabu and has a single grass runway. Air Kiribati operates a small number of weekly flights connecting the atoll to the wider Gilbert Islands network.

Because Abaiang is an atoll, onward travel to South Tarawa is by short domestic flight or, more slowly, by boat. Within the atoll, travelers rely on pre-arranged village transport, as public transport options are limited.

Terminal facilities are basic, with a small passenger building and limited services, so passengers are advised to confirm schedules and travel prepared. Despite its simplicity, the airport plays an important role in connecting this outer atoll community with the rest of Kiribati.
