About Rivnenska
Rivne is a compact, green city in western Ukraine and the administrative centre of Rivne Oblast. Set on the Ustia River, it is known for its parks, regional museums and its role as a transport and industrial hub connecting western Ukraine with central Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.
The city was first mentioned in 1283 and received Magdeburg rights in 1492. Over the centuries it has been part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish Crown, the Russian Empire and interwar Poland, briefly served as a temporary capital of the Ukrainian People's Republic in 1919, and was designated the capital of the German-administered Reichskommissariat Ukraine during the Second World War. That layered history remains visible in its streets and architecture.
Rivne's oldest building is the wooden Assumption Church, built in 1756. Visitors can also see the 55-metre Intercession Cathedral, the Resurrection Cathedral, the Rivne Regional Museum of Local Lore and the Amber Museum, which reflects the region's amber-mining tradition. Green spaces such as Taras Shevchenko Park and Lebedynka Park, together with the open-air Hill of Glory memorial, give the centre a relaxed character.
The central area around Soborna and Mykhailivska streets is the focus for shopping, cafés, hotels and cultural venues, including the drama theatre. Nearby attractions such as the Tunnel of Love in Klevan and the historic town of Dubno make Rivne a practical base for exploring the wider region.
Economically, Rivne is home to the Rivne-Azot chemical plant, food processing and amber-related industries, and it serves as a business and logistics centre for Rivne Oblast. Its railway connections, cultural calendar and quieter pace appeal to both leisure visitors and business travellers.
