About Al Bahah
Al Baha is the capital of Al-Baha Province in southwestern Saudi Arabia and sits high in the Sarawat Mountains of the Hejaz. Often called the Garden of the Hejaz, the city is known for its cooler, greener setting, forested slopes and sweeping mountain views, which set it apart from the drier lowlands nearby.
The region has deep roots in the Ghamid and Zahran tribes, and its landscape still carries centuries-old qasbah stone towers, once built to protect villages and roads. Around 24 kilometres from the city, the restored village of Thee Ain shows terraced stone houses that climb a hillside, while palaces such as Bin Raqoush and local heritage museums preserve the area's past.
Al Baha is a gateway to nature and outdoor sightseeing. Raghadan Forest Park offers shaded walkways and viewpoints above the city, Al-Hussam Park provides family recreation in the centre, and Shada Mountain attracts hikers and visitors to its caves and rare plant life. Khairah Waterfall Park and nearby mountain farms add to a route that mixes forests, springs and traditional agriculture.
Beyond tourism, Al Baha functions as a regional administrative and market centre, with honey, olive oil, pomegranate and coffee among the area's best-known produce. The city has a modest, relaxed pace, and its summer festivals and events draw domestic visitors seeking relief from the heat of other Saudi regions.
For leisure travellers, Al Baha offers heritage, nature and a refreshing highland climate, while business visitors arrive mainly for government, trade and regional services. King Saud Domestic Airport, about 45 kilometres away in Al-Aqiq, connects the city with other parts of Saudi Arabia.
