About Arno

Arno Atoll is a coral atoll in the Ratak Chain of the Marshall Islands, formed by about 133 low-lying islets arranged around a broad lagoon in the North Pacific. It sits close to the capital, Majuro, but retains a quiet, traditional outer-island character based on fishing, copra production and village life.

The atoll's reef encloses several lagoons and dozens of small islets, with the main settlements at Ine, Arno, Tutu and Tinak. Ine is the principal village and has one of the atoll's small airstrips, while other islets hold family compounds, coconut groves, simple churches and small landing beaches.

Arno has a long Marshallese heritage and is known in the region for traditional navigation, canoe building and strong community customs. Visitors may see copra being dried, fish caught with local methods and handicrafts such as woven mats and baskets, all part of everyday island life.

Tourism infrastructure is very limited, so travel is mostly independent and low-key. Boat trips between islets, swimming in the lagoon, fishing and walks through coconut plantations are the main experiences, and most supplies and onward connections pass through Majuro.

For travelers, Arno offers a genuine look at outer-island Marshallese life away from Majuro's small urban centre. It appeals to people interested in Pacific culture, simple guesthouse stays and slow travel, while business, government and logistical activity remain concentrated in Majuro.

Arno Travel Guide

Best Time to Visit

The Marshall Islands are warm and humid year-round. The drier months from about December to April are generally the most comfortable for travel, while May to November tends to be wetter and more humid.

How to Get Around

Arno has no road network linking its islets, so movement is mainly by small outboard boats between villages and islands. Within settlements people walk, and Air Marshall Islands flights link the Ine and Tinak airstrips with Majuro.

Where to Stay

Accommodation on Arno is limited to simple guesthouses and family-run homestays, often in or near Ine. Many visitors stay in Majuro and arrange a day trip or a short outer-island stay by boat.

Food & Drink

Meals on Arno centre on fresh reef fish, coconut, breadfruit, pandanus and rice, often prepared simply by local families. Shops are small, so visitors usually bring supplies from Majuro and confirm drinking water in advance.
