About Glenfaba
Glenfaba is a western sheading of the Isle of Man, centred on the historic fishing town of Peel and taking in the parishes of German and Patrick. It stretches from the island's central hills and the Tynwald Valley to a rugged stretch of west coast, giving the area a quieter, more rural character than the capital, Douglas.
Peel is the heart of Glenfaba and one of the Isle of Man's most distinctive small towns. Its harbour, marina and sandy Fenella Beach sit below the red sandstone walls of Peel Castle on St Patrick's Isle, a site tied to Viking, medieval and Christian history. Nearby, the House of Manannan museum explores the island's Celtic, Viking and maritime past.
St John's, in the parish of German, holds Tynwald Hill, where the Manx parliament traditionally gathers each July in a ceremony with over a thousand years of history. Around it, the parishes of German and Patrick offer farmed valleys, wooded glens and coastal paths, including the waterfall at Glen Maye and walks over Peel Hill.
Fishing remains part of Glenfaba's identity, and Peel is known for its working harbour and long tradition of Manx kippers. Pubs, cafés, seafood restaurants and small independent businesses line the quays and main streets, while summer events and the island's heritage and motorcycling calendar bring extra visitors to the west.
For travellers, Glenfaba offers a compact base for exploring the Isle of Man's west coast, countryside and historic sites, while remaining within easy reach of Douglas and the airport. It appeals to leisure visitors seeking scenery and heritage as well as business travellers wanting a calmer alternative with good island-wide road connections.
