About Saint George
Saint George is one of Antigua and Barbuda's six parishes, stretching across the northeastern part of the island of Antigua. It is best known as the country's aviation gateway because V.C. Bird International Airport sits within its boundaries, meaning most arriving visitors touch down in Saint George before travelling onward.
The parish was created in 1725 after being separated from the larger parish of Saint Peter, and its landscape still reflects that colonial past through old plantation sites and village names such as Piggotts, Fitches Creek, Osbourn and Barnes Hill. Coolidge, within the parish, hosted a United States Army air base during the Second World War, a chapter echoed in local place names and infrastructure.
Although small, Saint George plays an important role in Antiguan sport and events. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound and Coolidge Cricket Ground in Osbourn have made the parish a focal point for cricket, including international fixtures, and the stadium co-hosted the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
Saint George has fewer beaches and tourist attractions than some neighbouring parishes, but its position gives it everyday travel value: it sits minutes from the capital St. John's and close to the island's northeast coast. International education institutions in the area also contribute a youthful and internationally mixed local population.
For leisure and business travellers alike, Saint George works as the practical entry point to Antigua, combining airport access, sporting venues, a historic agricultural landscape and convenient road links to hotels, marinas and beaches elsewhere on the island.

Saint George Travel Guide
Best Time to Visit
December to April is the driest, most reliable season and the main time for beach holidays and cricket events. The months from June to November bring higher humidity and the Atlantic hurricane season, often with fewer crowds.
How to Get Around
Taxis and rental cars are the most practical options, especially from V.C. Bird International Airport, which lies close to St. John's. Public buses run along main roads, but a rental car offers more flexibility for exploring beaches and attractions across Antigua.
Where to Stay
Saint George itself is largely residential and close to the airport, while nearby St. John's suits travellers wanting city amenities. Beach resorts cluster around Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, and quieter stays can be found along the northeast coast.
Food & Drink
