About Woitape Airport
Woitape Airport is a small remote airfield serving Woitape and surrounding communities in Central Province, Papua New Guinea. It provides an essential air link for villages in the Owen Stanley Range, where road access is limited and light aircraft are often the most practical way to travel.
The airport has a single runway, commonly described as a grass airstrip, aligned 15/33 and roughly 915 metres long, suitable for light aircraft. It sits at an elevation of about 1,585 metres and is used mainly by PNG Air flights connecting Woitape with Port Moresby and Tapini.
The airstrip lies roughly 100 km from Port Moresby by air, while the mountainous road route is much longer and can take several hours. For most travelers, a short domestic flight is the most convenient way to reach the area.
Facilities are minimal, and visitors should expect a basic, remote airstrip experience. Travelers are advised to arrange transfers and supplies in advance, as the airport remains an important lifeline for this part of Papua New Guinea.
