It supports general aviation, charter and scenic flights and is used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service, making it an important air link for a remote part of the state. The airfield lies about 6 km northeast of Hawker and roughly 365 km north of Adelaide. It has a single runway aligned 18/36 with a compact apron and is operated by The Flinders Ranges Council. By road, travellers can reach Hawker in a short drive and continue to Wilpena Pound, Ikara–Flinders Ranges National Park and Rawnsley Park Station; Adelaide is approximately four to five hours south by car.
