West Sale Airport (SXE)

West Sale Airport is a regional general aviation airport located about 10 km west of Sale in Victoria's Gippsland region. Owned and operated by Wellington Shire Council, it serves charter, private, training and air ambulance flying rather than scheduled airline services, and is a key aviation hub for the area.

The airport has three runways: a sealed 1,800 m main runway (09/27) and two grass runways. The main runway was extended from 1,527 m to 1,800 m, and the site also includes sealed taxiways, aprons, a Precision Approach Path Indicator and a ground-based NDB serviced from nearby RAAF Base East Sale.

Sitting beside the Princes Highway, the airport supports aviation businesses that serve the offshore oil and gas industry, while companies such as Lockheed Martin, Pilatus, Airflite, Hawker Pacific and CHC Helicopters maintain a presence in the area. Its location near RAAF Base East Sale reinforces Sale's role as a regional aviation centre.

A small terminal building with seating and parking, 24-hour fuel, hangars and maintenance facilities supports private and charter travellers. Road access makes it straightforward to continue by taxi, pre-booked transfer, chauffeur or rental car to Sale, the Gippsland Lakes, Ninety Mile Beach and surrounding towns.
