About Wasum Airport
Wasum Airport (WUM) is a small domestic airfield serving Wasum village and nearby communities in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. It provides an important air link for the Kandrian area on the southern side of New Britain, where overland travel can be slow or limited.
The airport operates from a single runway and a compact passenger handling area rather than a large multi-terminal complex. Light aircraft services connect the airstrip with other parts of the region, supporting local travel, supplies and access to provincial services.
Wasum Airport lies near Wasum village, roughly 30 km from Kandrian and about 105 km from Kimbe, the provincial capital. Given the limited road network in this part of the province, air travel and pre-arranged transport are common ways to continue a journey.
Passenger facilities are basic, so travelers should plan ahead, confirm flight details with their airline and arrange onward transport before arriving. Despite its small size, the airport remains a practical gateway for the surrounding communities.
