About Walgett Airport
Walgett Airport is a small regional airport serving Walgett and the surrounding Walgett Shire in far north-west New South Wales. Owned and operated by Walgett Shire Council, it connects remote outback communities with larger regional centres through subsidised air services.
Located about 2 km south-east of the Walgett town centre, the airport has a single sealed runway (05/23) measuring approximately 1,626 metres, plus a grass runway used by smaller aircraft. Its modest terminal handles check-in, waiting, arrivals and baggage in one compact building.
Air Link operates subsidised regional flights linking Walgett with Dubbo and Lightning Ridge under the Western Air Services program. These connections make the airport an important transport lifeline for residents and visitors travelling to the opal fields and pastoral districts of north-western New South Wales.
Ground access is mainly by private vehicle, taxi or pre-arranged transfer, with the town centre only a short drive away. Facilities are simple but functional, reflecting the airport's role as a small regional gateway rather than a major passenger hub.
