About Vancouver International Airport
Vancouver International Airport is the main international airport serving Vancouver and the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia. Located on Sea Island in Richmond, the airport is a major transpacific hub and one of Canada's busiest gateways, handling domestic, US and international flights.
Opened in 1931 and rebuilt around its present Main Terminal in 1968, YVR operates two terminals: the Main Terminal, with separate domestic and international concourses, and the South Terminal for regional, floatplane and charter services. The airport is a hub for Air Canada, WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines and hosts a United States border preclearance facility.
YVR is about 12 kilometres south of downtown Vancouver and is connected to the city by the Canada Line SkyTrain, which reaches the city centre in under 30 minutes. Buses, taxis, ride-hailing, car rentals and road links provide additional onward travel options.
