Useless Loop Airport (USL)

Useless Loop Airport is a private industrial airstrip serving the Useless Loop salt operation and company town on the western side of Shark Bay in Western Australia. Rather than a public passenger terminal, it supports charter, fly-in fly-out and company movements connected to the solar salt works established in 1962 by Shark Bay Resources.

The airfield has a single unsealed runway and limited airfield infrastructure. It is not served by scheduled commercial flights, and access is restricted to authorized company, charter and site traffic, with prior permission required for aircraft arrivals.

Useless Loop sits within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. The nearest public town is Denham, reached by road via Useless Loop Road, a drive of roughly 214 km; there is no public transport, so ground travel is arranged through the site operator or a pre-booked private road transfer.

Because the airport is tied to the salt operation, travelers should treat flight, site access and ground transport as one coordinated journey rather than expecting standard passenger services such as shops, lounges or car rental at the airfield.
