The airstrip sits approximately 30 km east of Mount Surprise and about 275 km southwest of Cairns, Queensland's nearest major international gateway. Its single grass runway is used mainly by light aircraft bringing visitors directly to the park, and it complements the region's road access along the Savannah Way.
Because Undara is remote, the airstrip provides a practical arrival option for travelers combining a visit to the lava tubes with wider Gulf Savannah touring.
