About Tumut Airport
Tumut Airport is a small public aerodrome serving Tumut and the Snowy Valleys region of southern New South Wales. Operated by Snowy Valleys Council, it caters mainly to general aviation, recreational aircraft and charter operations, and sits within about two hours' flying time of both Sydney and Melbourne.
The airport is located roughly four kilometres north of the Tumut town centre, on the edge of the Snowy Mountains foothills. Its single sealed runway provides access for private pilots, flight training, business aircraft and emergency services.
A major upgrade completed in December 2025 extended and widened the main runway to 1,150 metres by 23 metres and improved drainage, lighting and fencing. These works strengthened the aerodrome's role as a base for Rural Fire Service water-bombing, air ambulance and other emergency aviation operations.
The aerodrome offers AVGAS and Jet A1 refuelling, hangars and apron parking, with direct road access to Tumut and onward routes toward the Snowy Mountains, Kosciuszko National Park and nearby Snowy Valleys communities.
