About Truscott-Mungalalu Airport
Truscott-Mungalalu Airport is a private commercial airfield on the Anjo Peninsula in the far north Kimberley region of Western Australia. It sits about 35 kilometres from Kalumburu and serves charter flights, resource and offshore logistics, medical evacuations and occasional expedition travel, making it a key remote gateway for the area.
The airfield began as RAAF Truscott, a secret World War II base built in 1944 and named after Squadron Leader Keith 'Bluey' Truscott. After the war it was largely abandoned before being revived and modernised to support offshore oil and gas operations in the Timor Sea.
The airport operates a single sealed runway measuring about 1,800 metres by 30 metres, capable of handling jet aircraft, together with a compact terminal and an on-site accommodation camp. Passenger facilities include a transit lounge, dining hall, gym, swimming pool and fuel supply.
Access is primarily by charter aircraft from centres such as Darwin, Broome or Kununurra, while overland access from Kalumburu is by four-wheel drive on unsealed tracks. Entry is restricted and requires prior permission.
