Townsville Airport (TSV)

Townsville Airport is the principal aviation gateway for North Queensland, serving the city of Townsville and the wider region's tourism, mining and defence sectors. Located in the suburb of Garbutt, it sits about 10 minutes by road from the city centre and connects regional Queensland with major capital cities including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin.

The airport has operated as a joint-user facility with the Department of Defence since its Garbutt airfield was developed in 1939, and it remains closely linked to RAAF Base Townsville. In 1983 it became the first regional Australian airport to offer direct long-haul international flights from a new international terminal. Queensland Airports Limited has owned the facility since 2005, investing in terminal upgrades, runway resurfacing and modern security screening.

Today the airport operates a single integrated passenger terminal, with domestic departures using gates in the departure lounge and arrivals handled at the ground-floor baggage claim area. Services are provided by Qantas, QantasLink, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Alliance, Airnorth and Rex.

Passengers can reach the city centre by public bus, airport shuttle, taxi, rideshare or rental car, with taxis and rideshare available directly outside the terminal at the arrivals end. The compact terminal offers free Wi-Fi, cafés, shops and a Qantas Club lounge, making onward travel around North Queensland straightforward.
