About Torokina Airport
Torokina Airport is a small domestic airstrip serving Torokina, a coastal settlement on the west coast of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. It provides an air connection for local communities and is used mainly for domestic and charter flights.
The airport has a single grass runway and a basic passenger facility. The surrounding area has a long aviation history, including a larger wartime airfield built at Cape Torokina during the Second World War, while today's civil airstrip operates as a much smaller rural facility.
Located close to Torokina settlement, the airstrip is reached by road. The nearest larger town, Arawa, lies about 55 km to the east, while Buka, the administrative centre of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, is around 96 km to the north.
Travelers using the airport should expect basic facilities and arrange onward road transport in advance, as scheduled public transport is limited. Its main value is as a local gateway for communities on Bougainville's west coast.
