Tocumwal Airport (TCW)

Tocumwal Airport is a general aviation aerodrome serving Tocumwal, a Murray River town in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales. Opened in 1942 as McIntyre Field, a United States Army Air Forces heavy bomber base, it was at the time the largest airfield in the Southern Hemisphere and later operated as RAAF Station Tocumwal before closing as a military base in 1960.

Today the airport is owned and managed by Berrigan Shire Council and supports gliding, flying training, charter operations, agricultural aviation, air ambulance services and recreational flying. It has two sealed runways, 18/36 and 09/27, with parallel grass strips used for glider operations, and the Sportavia Soaring Centre is based at the airfield.

The airport lies about 2 km east of the Tocumwal town centre, close to the Newell Highway and the Victoria border. Road access makes it easy to reach Tocumwal, Cobram across the Murray River, and other towns in the region by private vehicle or arranged transfer.

Facilities include aircraft refuelling, hangars, a Bureau of Meteorology weather station and the Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome Museum, which records the airfield's wartime heritage. As a compact regional aerodrome, it is well suited to pilot training, gliding events and light aircraft operations.
